Everything you need to tell your story

Coaching

You have a compelling story to tell. Maybe you want to bring credibility and prestige to your business or cause. Perhaps the story of your life experience is something you want to pass along to your children's children. Or maybe you have always dreamed of writing a novel or having your own name on the cover of a book. Whatever your motivation, many first-time writers don't know where to begin. A blank page looms like Mount Everest. What they need is a guide, a "sherpa" to help them take the first steps. I can show you how to get started, encourage you and lead you to the summit. Don't get stuck, get started. Yes, you can get there from here -- from the spark of an idea to a book in your hands.

Editing

Even editurs need editors. You caught that mistake, right? But chances are you would miss it if you wrote it, because we all are "colorblind" to our own errors. I've been an editor since my first weekly newspaper in 1979, but I still rely on a second pair of eyes to catch mistakes and challenge me to improve my writing. A good editor will help you write your way out of a dead-end street, and find a way around roadblocks in your storytelling. A good editor will challenge you to become a better writer by suggesting more powerful, vivid prose that makes a story come alive. I also edit websites, where too often I see beautiful designs tarnished by poor grammar, misspellings, wrong word usage and bad writing.

Books with a mission

Some books are have a purpose. The Legacy of Courage series began with a phone call from Honor Flight Tri-State Director Cheryl Popp.  She wanted to preserve the stories of the American heroes who fought in World War II, pass their exciting history on to future generations, share the story of the amazing Honor Flight experience and raise money to send more veterans to see their memorials in Washington while they are still able. After thousands of sales, "Mission Accomplished."

Legacy books

Everyone has a story to tell. And with Chilidog Press custom publishing, you can tell your story and pass it on to your children and grandchildren as you share it with friends and readers you've never met. Ray Neighor's inspirational book about overcoming a prison record to become the GE's Employee of the Year brought letters from fans as far away as Belgium and as close as his Ohio hometown. Imagine how exciting it would be to find a biography by your grandparent. That's the power of legacy books.

Novels and fiction

After decades of watching families and children damaged by five-minute "drive-by" divorce in his Lexington Family Court, Judge Tim Philpot decided to tell a story that would make a difference. His colorful behind-the-scenes look inside a typical courtroom is funny, heartbreaking, compelling, exciting and powerful. It is changing lives and saving marriages. We often discover the greatest hidden truth in fiction.

Book design

Yes you can judge a book by its cover. A bad cover can kill a good story. Even the best writing will be ignored if the "package" is unappealing or the layout and interior looks unprofessional or sloppy. We work with professional designers because the cover and design of a book tells a story too -- before the first word is read.

Printing and Publishing

We offer a menu of printing and publishing options to fit your budget, from press runs in the thousands, in vibrant color, to simple black on white print-on-demand shipments of a hundred books. We can tailor your publishing project to fit your book.

Marketing

Huge sales are not a realistic goal for most authors. Unless best-seller lightning strikes, your book won't allow you to quit your day job and sip Mai Tais on a beach in the Caribbean. But I can show you how to make money selling your book at signing events, on Amazon, through social media and in bookstores. Besides, there are many good reasons to publish a book. You can make a dream come true, pass on your experience and advice, raise the credibility of your organization or business, or simply take satisfaction from writing, which equals the joy of painting, playing in a band or any other hobby. We all are created in the image of our Creator -- born to be creative.

You can be part of a publishing revolution

Once upon a time books used to begin with "Once upon a time." They were published by fat men in tweed suits with leather elbow patches, who puffed on pipes as they wrote rejection letters that crushed the dreams of writers. But like the cartel of Big Media, the monopoly of Big Publishing has been busted. Publishing is now within reach of your keyboard. If you can write, we can publish together. Access is no longer controlled by a handful of big publishers. Successful book projects are surprisingly affordable.
